Our washing machine died. I cursed it.
The lovely Kimba of A Soft Place to Land was super excited, and rightfully so, that she was chosen to do a review/produce a series of posts/write a lot about her new Electrolux HE Super Duper Stackable washer and dryer.
I might have bragged at her very cool site that I was still using my lo-tech top loader and loving it, and the magnificent workhorse would have to be pried from my cold dead hands before I would part with it. Plus, anticipating at least two more moves in the next five years, I did not want to queue up for an investment washing station only to have it suffer the brutish manhandling of men who would be moving it.
Flash forward to the next Monday. I was standing in the kitchen wondering what would be good for dinner (Honey Nut Cheerios is good, right?) and thought to myself
"wow, that helicopter is flying really close to the house.!?".
Rather than a helicopter, the noise was the washing machine grinding out it's last - that or it was considering "wheat thresher" as a possibility for a second career as it was trying to jump out my utility room window.
So, I'm considering all my options, all my broke and broke down washing machine options, that is/they are - should I splurge for front-load, or simply replace with a comparable regular ole dealy-bobber?
Your mission, if you choose to accept it: I would love to hear from folks who have used both types of washing machine, who can (or cannot) endorse front-load based on personal experience.
Holla.
oh, btw, Dorian Speed (superhero) broke hers, too - it's not just me!
I light a candle and pray everyday for my ugly top loader (that came with the house) to die so I can get the front loader I lust after. Then of course, I would need the super duper dryer that steams. I should just pull the plug.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.

ReplyDeleteI know - how can I get the washer and NOT the dryer, it just isn't natural...
Hmm... must be something in the water around these interweb parts ;). My beloved front loader gave up, and dramatically, and now I am facing the same dilemma. My previous top loader served me well for 12 years and then another family used it to death in another two. This front loader was a DREAM for just short of five years and now I have to replace it and I'm terrified to make a mistake. Best of luck to you in your decision and to myself in mine! I would say, though, that I wouldn't want to trust the computerized amazingness that is a HE machine to any old moving person though.
ReplyDeleteWe bought a front load washer and dryer about 2 years ago. We only needed a washer but because the size of load the washer could do, it would not make sense to get the dry that could do a larger load too. I really do not see much of a difference besides load in the cleaning. Except whites, the whites are on a special white load that washes for 1 1/2 hours, I think they come out whiter and that is a good thing, seeing as I have a thing for WHITE. Good luck in your search.
